Conferences Highlights
2009 Medal of Honor winners will be flown into Boston and treated with the dignity and respect deserving our professions hero’s. They will receive their awards Friday night September 18, 2009 at our Banquet held in their honor. Mark your calendar now – and wear your uniform when you attend! As a nation of Correctional Officers we represent some of the bravest men and women in law enforcement. It’s time the nation recognized us for what we do every day. There is no fee to attend but you MUST register with us so that we know how many meals to prepare and we have the appropriate materials.
Special Guest Speaker: Mr. Don Novey
Former President and founder of the California
Correctional Peace Officers Association. Mr. Novey is
given credit for making CCPOA one of the highest regarded and
powerful voices for corrections in the nation. He started the
CCPOA PAC which is regarded as the most influential
and successful PAC’s in the country for our profession.
Training Seminar: East Coast/West Coast Gangs
Last years training seminar on Courtroom Testimony was incorporated into the basic training curriculum in Arundel County, MD. The ACO 2007 Training Seminar on Inmate Covert Communications has been used in facilities across the nation. Gangs are a huge problem for us.
Don’t miss Sgt Mike Van Patten and Correctional Officer Ed Callaghan’s presentation. Both Officers are certified instructors.
Legislation: ACO Legislative Chairman Jack Rosser will give a special presentation on the results of our lobbying efforts in DC as well as the Senator Jim Webb’s (D-VA) Corrections Reform Committee.
Cell phones: A special presentation on cell phones in our prisons, jails and juvenile detention facilities, the danger they present and the need to jam these devices will be discussed.
